Message from the President
Leadership Academy has helped me accept the fact the I am afraid.  I am afraid of taking on certain challenges because I do not want to fail.   I have allowed fear hold me back from many opportunities and I know that I am not alone.

We need to overcome fear to reach our goals.  If we let fear control our lives, we will not succeed.  If we let fear of something that never happened control us, we will not reach our potential.  Do not let fear of failure stop you from reaching your potential.

Matt Booth, a motivational speaker and pass Jaycee, had us write down 10 goals we would like to fulfill in the future.  What helped him get where he is at now, he always kept a list of goals in his wallet and looks over it often.  Keeping his goals on him helped remind him of the things he would like to fulfill.  He mentioned that there is never too many goals and briefly showed us a fine print list of goals on the front and back of a piece of  paper.  He also mentioned that it is okay to cross off goals that we loose interest in or cannot fulfill at the time.  When he kept his goals on him, he noticed a changed.  He was able to fulfill things that he only dreamed of, becoming a motivational speaker was one them.

As Jaycees and individuals who want to succeed in life and to make a difference, I would like you to create a list of goals.  Hold on to your goals and view them often, more than once a month.  You can keep them in you wallet, purse or even your cell phone.

Throughout this year, I will follow up to see who has their goals on them and I will keep track of those names.  At the end of the year, I will put everyone's names in a drawing for a prize.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Message from the Mangagement VP
Dear Fellow Jaycees,

I am extremely proud and excited to be your Chapter management Vice-president. It is an honor to be a part of this distinguished organization. I am a relatively new member of the Dover Jaycees, and of the Jaycees as a whole, but you all have welcomed me, and for that I am grateful.

I would like to give you all a little background on myself. I was born here in Dover and raised west of Dover, in the town of Hartly. I graduated from Polytech High School in 2004 and I am currently finishing up my associates degree in Paralegal studies at Delaware Technical and Community College.

I have many ambitions for our chapter this year that I would like to make a reality. I want our chapter to develop working relationships with our local business and community leaders. I also want to see our chapter start putting some speak up and write up sessions together. I believe that these programs make us better Jaycees! Also, folks it is an election year and I would like to get a voter registration drive going. As we all know one of the pillars of our organization is civic involvement, and what better way, than to get people registered and motivated to vote. I also would like to see our chapter put on networking events, like socials and brunch meet and greets. I would like to get some of our local business leaders and other professionals of all ages together for these events. That would be a great way for our members to network, but also it could be an incentive for young professionals who are not Jaycees to join our group. I also want our chapter to focus on fundraising. These are just a few of the things that the chapter and I have on tap for this year. So look out, because the Jaycees are going to make a big impact this year!

Message from the Individual VP

I've been working on ensuring we have a guest speaker at every meeting this year. In January we had our own Jaycee Jeff Lank talk to us about how to recruit people into the Jaycees. As always Jeff was wonderful! This month I have booked a newly local artist Anne Jenkins. (Please see following press release.) In March we will have performance life coach Fred Melichore. I have also spoken to some other people about coming to speak to us including: a representative of the National Popular Vote, a real estate broker, and a senator. President Liz has given me another lead on someone that does personality assessments. My goal this year is to really draw in our membership and the general public (who hopefully will become members) with some knowledgeable and entertaining guest speakers!

ARTIST PRESENTATION TO JAYCEES DOVER CHAPTER

Milford, Del. - Milford artist Anne Jenkins will give a presentation on The Vukusakhe Art Project, and The Bag of Hope, to the Jaycees Dover chapter on Monday, February 13. The group meets at 6:00pm at Fraizer's on the Waterfront at 9 E. Lockerman St. in Dover.

This exciting new project benefits AIDS orphans in South Africa and is a collaboration between artist, Anne Jenkins, and the Amandawe Support Group in KwaZulu Natal. The ladies in the support group create fabric landscapes and Jenkins incorporates them in to her art. The series is called "The Vukusakhe Project" because in Zulu this means 'standing up and doing it for yourself'.

"It's really spreading hope with every stitch ... and now, paint," Jenkins said. "We are truly a grassroots organization of women helping women."

Each piece will be on a 36x24 inch wooden panel. Jenkins attaches plexiglass dowels to the panel to support the fabric landscape above her painting. This will protect the fabric piece, keep it as an individual piece of art and will 'float' over her scene. Each completed piece will bear the signature of Jenkins and the designer of the fabric landscape.
Jenkins will have a couple of the completed pieces to display and discuss at the meeting. She will also have a sample of The Bags of Hope. The bags are also decorated with the fabric landscapes and was the original collaboration effort between Jenkins and the Amandawe group. The website is http://TheBagofHope.com.

Jenkins, a British citizen born and raised in South Africa, lived in six European countries for 25 years and traveled the world extensively before settling in the United States. New Orleans was Jenkins' adopted city for a few years until Hurricane Katrina. After Katrina, she owned a gallery & studio in Georgia before moving to Delaware in 2011.
A self-taught artist, her acrylics and watercolors can be found in many private collections in Europe, Japan, South Africa, Canada, all over the United States. Among her corporate clients are HBO and Universal Studios, Hollywood, Calif., the Ritz-Carlton at Lake Oconee, Ga.; Datacert Inc., Houston, Texas; TravelTalk Radio, San Diego, Calif., and Entergy Power Company, New Orleans, La. Jenkins has shown at some of the major shows in the nation, such as Bayou City in Houston, Texas, and Norcross Art Fest and Slotin's Art Festival in Atlanta, Ga. She participated in an invitation only show in Quebec, Canada in 2004 and spent three weeks as an artist in residence in Colorado in 2009. Her art is on display in a number of galleries in the South East. For information on Jenkins, call (302) 393-6629 or go to her website http://annejenkinsart.com

Message from the Treasurer

Dear Fellow Jaycees,

I'm happy to address you this fine February.  This is the time when many feel love and admiration to those important to them.  I believe this month is a great opportunity to help people find and share love and admiration for our chapter.  By doing this, we will be come more financially strong and it will allow us to have even more impact to community.  I'm not asking for YOU to give money, I'm asking for you to share the value of the Jaycees with others.  If you have a special skill or business that you want to promote in the community as a fundraiser for the chapter please come talk to me as Treasurer.  I'll see how it fits our financial plan and share it with the board.  We will also be having a community support night at Pizza Uno.  Working on the final date and we'll have it available to promote that the upcoming meeting if not befoe.   With each member our chapter grows stronger and with our chapter strong our community is stronger.  Lets keep what we did in 2011 going by having a great February.  I'm here to assist anyway that I can.

Message from the Secretary
Wow, it's the beginning of a new year for each individual as well as a brand new beginning for the Dover Jaycees. My name is Shelby Everline and I am your Secretary for 2012. Most of you may remember that I was the Individual Development Vice President last year. We accomplished quite a bit last year. We really didn't think about it until 2011 President Eric Riddle reminded us of just how much we did in 2011.

As Secretary, it is my goal to make sure we have those accurate records to show what we have accomplished. Sometimes it's not always obvious the importance of accurate record-keeping. It is important as we have been finding out in rebuilding the Dover Chapter. Having a record of all the projects/events we have either run or participated in creates an accurate history for the Chapter. It is especially important when deciding what projects/events we want to participate in.

I have been asked to give you a bit of background on me. I have lived in all 3 counties of Delaware. I grew up in Greenwood in Sussex County. I attended the University of Delaware, which is why I moved to Newark in New Castle County. I moved to Dover in Kent County after starting a new job at the Arthritis Foundation. I am now employed part time at Wesley College in the Registrar's Office. I have over 3 years' experience in taking minutes when I worked for the Medical Society of Delaware with the ten state physicians' societies. I am excited to be a member of the Dover Jaycees and your 2012 Secretary.
